First Method

Lauch Windows Task Manager.
End wgatray.exe process in Task Manager.
Restart Windows XP in Safe Mode.
Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32.
Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32\dllcache.
Lauch RegEdit.
Browse to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify
Delete the folder ‘WgaLogon’ and all its contents
Reboot Windows XP.

Note: With this method, you may be prompted to install WGA Notifications again which can still be unselected.

Nguyên nhân của hiện tượng trên là do chức năng AutoUpdate của Windows đã tự động tải về cài đặt chương trình kiểm tra bản quyền của Microsoft tên Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) Notifications (KB905474). Chương trình này sẽ kiểm tra bản Windows XP bạn đang cài mỗi khi khởi động và nếu đây là bản bất hợp pháp thì sẽ thường xuyên hiển thị cảnh báo (và đã có trường hợp máy không thể chạy Windows được nữa). Vì có nhiều ý kiến phản đối nên mới đây Microsoft đã nâng cấp chương trình này để giảm bớt tần số kiểm tra đồng thời hướng dẫn cách gỡ bỏ các phiên bản cũ như sau (tham khảo trang Web http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921914).

Vô hiệu WGA Notifications
1. Đăng nhập vào Windows với quyền hạn Administrative.
2. Đổi tên mở rộng của các file sau đây thành .old: Windows\system32\WgaLogon.dll, Windows\system32\WgaTray.exe
3. Khởi động lại máy.

Gỡ bỏ WGA Notifications bằng tay
1-3. Như trên
4. Bấm Start > Run, gõ cmd và bấm OK > trong cửa sổ DOS gõ lệnh Regsvr32 %Windir%\system32\LegitCheckControl.dll /u rồi Enter.
5. Khởi động lại máy.
6. Bấm Start > Run, gõ cmd và bấm OK > trong cửa sổ DOS lần lượt gõ các lệnh xóa file sau:
Del %Windir%\system32\wgalogon.old
Del %Windir%\system32\WgaTray.old
Del %Windir%\system32\LegitCheckControl.dll
7. Gõ lệnh regedit > trong cửa sổ Registry Editor tìm đến khóa:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\, xóa mục WgaLogon
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\, xóa mục WgaNotify
