Today the iPhone 3.1.2 update was released to iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch usres. This update includes mainly bug fixes. If you would like to jailbreak or unlock your device, you must read this. If you have an unlocked iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS do not update to this new firmware, updating to the iPhone 3.1.2 firmware will permanently update your baseband. The newer baseband does not support software unlocking.

The jailbreak has not been released yet, but you if you’ve got too much time on your hands you may be able to jailbreak if you try the following. If this works please share your results in the comments.

1. Update to iPhone 3.1.2. After updating, find your iPhone 3.1.2 IPSW file or download it using any of the links below. Remember, don’t use Safari to download. Safari can’t download .IPSW files properly, use a different browser!

Unlock iPhone 3.1.2

It’s possible to unlock iPhone 3.1.2 but only if your baseband has not been updated to 05.11.07 or the newer baseband, you must create a custom firmware that uses the 04.26.08 baseband. The iPhone 3.1.2 update updates the baseband to a newer one that permanently blocks the software unlock. A guide on how to unlock iPhone 3.1.2 will be up once a jailbreak tool is released.

Today Geohot has released his blacksn0w baseband 05.11.07 unlock for the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. If you would like to unlock your iPhone on firmware 3.1.2 and use them with other carriers, this tutorial will show you how.

Geohot has decided to release his blacksn0w iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS unlock software today instead of November 4. It can be installed directly through blackra1n RC3. In this page I will show you how you can get blacksn0w on your iPhone.

WARNING

* Apple can permanently patch the blacksn0w exploit in their next firmware update, please subscribe to our free newsletter and remember to check the latest news here before updating your iPhone.
* You must download Cydia’s “On File” system in case Apple blocks more exploits in future updates. We will post a guide on how to do this later, but for now you can still continue following this tutorial.
* * If you have a “No WiFi” problem after following this tutorial, go to Settings – > General -> Reset and tap on Reset Network Settings. That should solve any WiFi issues you have.
* If you are using T-Mobile you must go to Settings -> General -> Network and slide the Enable 3G button to Off.

blacksn0w Tutorial

1. Download our free iUserbar toolbar and install it.

2. Click the Downloads button and click on the blackra1n RC3 link to download it.

3. Connect your iPhone to your computer and open the blackra1n application.


4. Click the make it ra1n button.


5. blackra1n will now put your iPhone in to recovery mode and display the above image of Geohot. While in recovery mode, blackra1n will jailbreak your device.


6. Once blackra1n is done jailbreaking, your iPhone will reboot and you should see the blackra1n icon on your iPhone or iPod touch screen.


7. Tap the blackra1n icon to open it. Tap on Cydia, Rock, and blacksn0w and then click the Install button to install them.



8. Once you’ve installed the applications, restart your iPhone. To do that, just hold down the top button until the Slide to power off message appears. Slide the button, and wait for your device to turn off. Turn on your device and you should now see the applications you selected on your iPhone.

What now?

iPhone successfully jailbroken!

Congratulations, you have successfully unlocked your iPhone, now you can use your iPhone with other carriers! If you live in the US the only other carrier you can use your iPhone with is T-Mobile.
